Our mission
The Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (MYPO) provides high-quality music education instruction, experiences, and performances to the youth in Maui County. Our heart is to also reach the underserved youth as we believe every student should have the opportunity to play an orchestral instrument, regardless of their socio-economic background. We support and enrich the young musicians on Maui to reach their highest potential.
In Loving Memory of Mr. Lance Jo
Co-Founder, Director Emeritus
Who We Are
MYPO is made up of budding young Maui musicians of all ability levels who play orchestral instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass, piccolo, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, and percussion). Since string instruction is not currently offered in Maui County schools, MYPO offers beginning classes on the violin, viola, cello, and bass to 7-14 years old students.
MYPO Says
Mahalo
For your continued support. Every donation made, volunteer hour worked, referral given, and ticket bought allows us to make a difference in the lives of the youth of Maui. It is with the support of our community that we can continue to make an impact through music.

The program which is made available through the Makana Aloha Foundation, Hawai’i Community Foundation’s Anonymous Donor Advisory program and David and Alice Yamashiro, offers instruction on the violin, viola, cello and bass to students in Grade 4.
Classes, which are being held after-school on Tuesday and Thursday after-school, are being instructed by Iolani Yamashiro-Rahimi, Roy Binder, and former MYPO violinist, Matthew Golin.
